Alive & Kickin'

VirginiaMontgomeryWhat do you do when your good friend tells you that she's going to visit her grandmother whose is celebrating her 95th birthday?  Offer to create a special nail color in her grandmother's honor, of course!  That's exactly what happened when my friend Jana shared with me her excitement about visiting her grandmother Virginia Montgomery.

"While I'm there I am hoping to give her a manicure; she loves it!" Jana told me.  She went on to tell me all the amazing things about her grandmother - that she is the oldest of ten children, worked most of her life, including at NASA where she has rubbed shoulders with almost every astronaut, that she's well loved by many neighbors and in her church, and last but not least, that only recently did she start to take her first and only medication of a simple blood thinner.

Wow, what a woman!  I couldn't help but think of the nail color name Alive & Kickin.  But would Virginia feel admired and appreciated with a name like that?  "Absolutely!" Jana reassured me.  Thankfully she did.

May we all be like Virginia Montgomery when we grow up!

Did Someone Say Party?

"For my uh-hum...29 again birthday, my husband Lloyd and I spent the week on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.  It was absolutely perfect!  We met all kinds of fun people sitting at the pool, swimming, sipping mojitos, and just having a great time.  Then we went to a casino and played there.  Plus, the two of us went parasailing, which was such a brave thing for me to do because I'm afraid of heights, but I loved it.  Just before leaving for our trip I decided to get a mani and a pedi.  Guess which color I chose for my birthday vacation?  It was Did Someone Say Party!  Trust me, it was so appropriate.  I had the best birthday ever!"

Cathy, talk about a happy birthday!  What a great story!  Sounds to me like you truly lived up to your nail color name. Those of us who are "turning 29 again" are certainly experienced in being able to spot a good party!

Nail Colors to Live Like for Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Today is one of those days that we either really enjoy or really dread.  It’s easy to love Valentine’s Day if you have a special someone in your life who is still feeling special.  If not, all of the specials on flowers and chocolate are just plain irritating.  Fortunately, there are nail colors that you can live like no matter how you feel.

For example, you could be on the plus love side of things like Claudia whom I met while speaking in Indianapolis.  She told me that she and Tim had been dating for several years and she knew he was the one.  One evening after dinner at the restaurant of their very first date, Tim handed Claudia a small, gift-wrapped box.  Inside was a single bottle of elegant mauve-colored nail polish.  When she turned over the bottle it read, "Will You Mariachi Me?" (an OPI color) with the "achi" part scratched out.  He then got down on his knees right there in the restaurant and proposed.  Talk about a keeper!  She has reportedly been living like her nail color ever since.

On the other side of things there’s my friend Carolyn who shared with me that she didn’t pay attention to the name of the nail color she chose when she got a French manicure the day before her wedding.  As her nails were drying she decided to look.  The name:  Ball-N-Chain.  Fortunately her marriage is working out far better than her nail color predicted!

There are so many great nail colors to live like this Valentine’s Day, no matter your situation.  Here are my personal top 10 from two of my favorite nail color manufactures OPI and Essie.

If you have that special someone, you might want to live like the nail colors…

Sweet Heart
Heart Throb
Honey Bun
I Pink I Love You
Show Me The Ring

If Valentine’s Day this year isn’t your thing or just plain irritating, consider…

Who Needs a Prince?
Looking for Love
You’re a Pisa Work
Not Like the Movies
My Way

Either way, hope you enjoy your day knowing that you’re loved by someone.  Who?  Me!  I LOVE the very fact that you read this post and am hoping you had a good laugh!

Cheers,
