 It's now officially summer and hotter than all blazes in some parts of the country! As part of your summer fun are you visiting relatives out-of-town and need a fun activity together? If so, why not gather up the females in your clan and head to the nail salon for a Live Like Your Nail Color Party?
That's what I did earlier this month when I visited relatives in Houston. My Aunt Mary, Aunt Lynn, and cousin Marlene piled in the van and headed to a nail salon for pedicures. Sitting in a row in their side room with four pedicure chairs, we felt like we had our own party. Almost as soon as we started sharing our answers to the questions in each Live Like Your Nail Color Party step, it almost felt like a therapy session it was so beneficial! Answering the first question "What's one thing recently I've done I feel good about and why?" immediately helped us all focus on what's going right in our lives. The second question we asked while putting on base coat, "What's one thing you want in any area of your life?", was revealing and juicy! Aunt Lynn revealed her frustration with her current condo that's located far from her best friend and doesn't have an elevator. And she didn't know what to do about it. She was stuck. Our on-the-spot brainstorming helped her get unstuck and re-energized about finding a solution! Marlene shared that she found out recently that she has to control her blood sugar because of early stage diabetes. What she wanted was the motivation to start exercising again and a simple food plan she could follow. Just saying it out loud seemed to help her shift from "Ugh" to "I can do it!" Aunt Mary said she wanted to enjoy the present moment more and story worrying about the future. It's wearing her out and she's not getting any younger! We all gave her an "Amen!" for that one! With the girlfriend support therapy session well underway, we then picked a polish and made sure it had a great name, regardless of its given name on the sticker! In the spirit of trying new things and making changes in our lives, everyone picked a color they had never worn before:
By the time the nail techs were putting on top coat we already knew the answer to the question that goes with that step: What's one thing recently you're grateful for or made you laugh? We all agreed it was our Live Like Your Nail Color Party! As we left the salon Aunt Lynn commented "I feel so energized! I haven't felt this good since rehab for my leg last summer." "Last summer!" I blurted out. "Aunt Lynn, you've got to keep having these parties with your girlfriends back home. We all need to feel good much more often!" You and your girlfriends deserve to feel good, too!
